National Security operatives in the Ashanti Region have taken control of the Akom Axel Load Station in the Afigya Kwabre North District following disturbing reports of corruption and alleged misappropriation of government funds.
According to Alhaji Abubakar Nje, the Deputy Regional Security Coordinator, intelligence gathered revealed that certain individuals at the station were exploiting the system for personal gain by failing to record and remit revenues due to the state.

He cited serious breaches including instances where trucks were not weighed, and the fees were pocketed by unscrupulous workers.
“We have taken over the Axel Load Station in Akom till further notice to ensure sanity and protect government benefits,” Alhaji Nje told Adom News. He further disclosed that on June 4, nine cars were arrested, but shockingly, during his supervision on June 9, only one vehicle had been recorded.
The scandal has drawn political condemnation, with Kwame Yallo, NDC Constituency Organizer for Afigya Kwabre North, voicing his frustration. He alleged that some members of the ruling party were abusing their positions at the station to accumulate personal wealth.
“They are not allowing trucks to be weighed. When I raised concerns, I was offered a bribe of one car per week to keep silent,” Yallo revealed.
He called on the government and the Ghana Highway Authority to intervene swiftly, emphasizing that public revenue was being lost while heavy-duty trucks, unchecked and unregulated, continued to damage roads in the district.
The takeover aims to restore accountability, curb corruption, and ensure that revenue generated from axle load charges is properly documented and remitted to the state.
