Cina Soul Fears for Her Life After Big Akwes’ Disturbing On-Air Death Threats Spark Outrage

Accra, July 2, 2025 — Celebrated Ghanaian songstress Cina Soul has raised a public alarm over her safety after actor and media personality Big Akwes made violent and graphic threats against her during a live television segment, prompting widespread condemnation and renewed calls for tighter regulation of media content in Ghana.
The incident occurred during a “Kiss, Marry, or Kill” challenge—a game typically played for laughs—where Big Akwes took a disturbing and violent turn, stating that he would kill Cina Soul and went on to describe a gruesome fantasy involving stabbing her with knives in both hands, drinking her blood, and eating her intestines, which he chillingly described as “self-glorifying.”
Cina Soul Speaks Out
Shocked and shaken, Cina Soul took to X (formerly Twitter) to express fear for her life and called on the Ghana Police Service and Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Sam George, to intervene.
“@GhPoliceService I’m deeply unsettled by this. I initially chose not to respond to earlier comments because I do not wish to be associated with this individual, but at this point I feel genuinely threatened,” she wrote.
She also made a passionate appeal to authorities for stricter regulation of disturbing content on Ghanaian television, stating:
“It’s critical we take a firm stance against this kind of dangerous rhetoric being broadcast on our TV and radio platforms. We must not normalize hate.”
Public Outcry and Celebrity Support
Cina Soul’s post has ignited a firestorm on social media, with fans, celebrities, civil society organisations, and the general public rallying behind her. Many are demanding the immediate arrest of Big Akwes and disciplinary action against the television station that allowed the comments to air uncensored.
Several high-profile personalities have condemned the comments, describing them as “barbaric,” “deeply troubling,” and “criminal.” Legal experts have also weighed in, noting that Big Akwes’ comments may constitute a threat of harm or incitement to violence, both of which are punishable under Ghanaian law.
Awaiting Police Response
As of the time of this publication, the Ghana Police Service has not yet issued an official response, but pressure is mounting for immediate investigation and protective action for Cina Soul.
The case has sparked a broader debate about media ethics, celebrity accountability, and the mental health impacts of public threats, especially against women in the entertainment industry.
With tensions high and public concern growing, many await the next steps from law enforcement and media regulators in what could become a pivotal moment in Ghana’s fight against violent speech and abuse in the media space.
