Chelsea Crowned Champions of Expanded FIFA Club World Cup with Stunning 3-0 Victory Over PSG

New Jersey, USA – July 14, 2025

Chelsea delivered a breathtaking performance to defeat European champions Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 and claim the inaugural title of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Cole Palmer emerged as the undisputed hero of the night, dazzling a crowd of over 81,000—including former U.S. President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino—with two first-half goals and an assist.

Palmer opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, finishing clinically after Malo Gusto exploited space behind PSG’s Nuno Mendes. Just eight minutes later, Palmer struck again, deceiving goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma with a clever dummy before slotting in a low shot to double Chelsea’s lead.

The 23-year-old England international then capped his first-half masterclass with a perfectly timed through-ball to new signing Joao Pedro, who chipped Donnarumma for a third goal just before halftime.

PSG tried to mount a response in the second half, but Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez denied them with key saves from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembele. Earlier missed chances from Joao Neves and Desire Doue proved costly as the Ligue 1 champions struggled to find momentum.

Frustration boiled over late in the match when Neves was shown a red card for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair following a VAR review. The tension escalated post-match, with PSG manager Luis Enrique appearing to strike Joao Pedro in a heated altercation that may draw disciplinary scrutiny from FIFA.

Despite PSG’s second-half push, Chelsea remained in full control, securing the win and the £90 million prize money.

This emphatic victory not only marks a significant international achievement for the Blues but also sets the tone for the upcoming season. Chelsea will now gear up for pre-season fixtures against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan before returning to Premier League action with a London derby against Crystal Palace.

Meanwhile, PSG will look to regroup ahead of their UEFA Super Cup showdown with Tottenham Hotspur on August 13.
