NIA Deputy CEO: Mid-Year Budget Review Will Reflect Government’s Fiscal Discipline

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Alhaji Mohammed Nasiru, has expressed optimism that the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review will reaffirm the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline and sound economic management.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Thursday, July 24, Alhaji Nasiru said the measures taken in the lead-up to the budget review point to responsible governance that prioritises the welfare of Ghanaians.

“The government has put in place stringent measures to ensure fiscal discipline in everything we do. Whether in policy or implementation, it will, in the end, be beneficial to the good people of Ghana,” he said.

He expressed confidence in Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson’s upcoming presentation, stating that it would demonstrate the government’s resolve to maintain macroeconomic stability while supporting inclusive growth.

“In a few hours, the Finance Minister will speak to the nation. I am confident and happy that the measures he will outline will demonstrate this government’s focus on doing what is right for the economy,” Alhaji Nasiru added.

Signs of Recovery and Budget Expectations

The 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review, which comes amid improving economic indicators, is expected to highlight government performance during the first half of the year and set the course for continued recovery under the IMF-supported programme.

Ghana’s economy has shown signs of improvement, with inflation dropping from 23.5% at the start of the year to 13.7% by June 2025, raising hopes of meeting the 11.9% year-end inflation target.

The Finance Minister is expected to address critical issues such as:

  • Expenditure control and efficiency
  • Revenue mobilisation performance
  • Public debt management strategies
  • Progress on flagship projects and social programmes

As stakeholders await the address, there is growing anticipation that the review will offer a clear roadmap for economic consolidation and sustained growth.
