Court Rejects Adjournment Request in GH¢49m NSB Embezzlement Case

The High Court in Accra has rejected a request for adjournment filed by the newly appointed legal counsel for Mildred Donkor, the third accused in the National Signals Bureau (NSB) GH¢49 million embezzlement case.

Presiding judge Justice John Nyante Nyadu ruled on Tuesday, July 29, that Donkor had been given adequate time to secure representation and should have fully briefed her new lawyer before the scheduled hearing.

“I ordinarily would have granted the request if the accused were illiterate,” Justice Nyadu remarked.
“But for someone as literate as she is, and who knew this case had been adjourned to allow her to find legal representation, it was expected that she would update her lawyer on all relevant matters.”

Appearing in court for the first time, Mr. Nutifafa Nutsukpui, Donkor’s new lawyer, told the court he had been retained only the previous night and had received incomplete documentation late in the day, limiting his ability to prepare for the session.

However, Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem-Sai opposed the adjournment, insisting that the motion before the court did not directly concern Donkor, but was related to a disclosure application by other accused persons.

“Disclosure is an ongoing process,” Dr. Srem-Sai argued.
“When counsel officially enters the case, he will have access to all disclosures relevant to his client.”

The high-profile case involves former NSB Director Kwabena Adu-Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng, Mildred Donkor, and a fourth individual, all charged with allegedly embezzling GH¢49 million in state funds and using the money to acquire multiple properties.

The court has adjourned proceedings to Thursday, July 31, 2025, for further hearings.
