The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has formally charged Bright Aweh, the prime suspect in the murder of Immigration Officer Stephen King Amoah, with murder.
The announcement was made by the Director-General of the CID, COP Lydia Donkor, during a joint press briefing with the National Cyber Security Authority on Monday, August 4, 2025.
COP Donkor revealed that forensic investigations had yielded crucial evidence linking the suspect to the crime.
“A search at the suspect’s residence uncovered bloodstains in one of the rooms and a fufu pestle, also stained with blood. Laboratory tests confirmed the stains were human blood,” she disclosed.
Bright Aweh is expected to appear before the Adabraka Court on August 8, 2025, where he will stand trial for the gruesome killing.
Meanwhile, Divine Selasie Agbeti, Acting Director-General of the National Cyber Security Authority, disclosed that the Authority, in collaboration with the CID, is also probing four major cases involving foreign nationals.
Stephen Amoah, aged 38, was found dead under suspicious circumstances on July 9, 2025, near Abuom Junction in Kwabenya, five days after being reported missing. He was last seen heading out from his Musuku Junction residence to meet a friend at Ashongman Estate.
According to his brother, Akwasi Amoako, the officer’s body was discovered with multiple stab wounds to the chest and neck, partially burnt, and wrapped in a woolen carpet before being dumped along the Abuom–Abokobi road—pointing to an attempted cover-up by the assailant(s).
The case has sent shockwaves through the security community and the public, prompting a swift and focused response from law enforcement agencies.
