Jubilee House Holds Wreath-Laying Ceremony to Honour Victims of Military Helicopter Crash

Accra – August 7, 2025
The Presidency on Thursday, August 7, hosted a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Ceremonial Gardens of Jubilee House in honour of the eight individuals who perished in Wednesday’s tragic military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
The event formed part of the ongoing three-day national mourning period declared by government, following the untimely loss of key national figures, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
National Leaders, Families Pay Tribute
The symbolic ceremony was attended by a cross-section of national leadership and the bereaved families. President John Dramani Mahama, dressed in black, led the tribute by laying the first wreath, followed by Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, members of the Council of State, government officials, military officers, party members, and the general public.
The gathering offered a moment of unity and reflection as the country mourned one of its darkest tragedies in recent memory.
National Mourning and Memorials
The national mourning period continues until Saturday, August 9, and will conclude with an “Evening of Reflections and Memorials” at the Forecourt of the State House. Details of the state funeral and burial arrangements are expected to be communicated in the coming days.
Identities of the Fallen
The crash claimed the lives of:
- Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
- Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, and MP for Tamale Central
- Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate
- Dr. Samuel Sarpong, NDC National Vice Chairman
Also among the deceased were three Ghana Air Force personnel:
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
- Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
The incident has deeply shaken the nation, drawing condolences from across the political divide and international community, as investigations by the Ghana Armed Forces continue to determine the cause of the crash.
