Afegame, Adidome – August 9, 2025 – The Wellness Bridge Initiative (WBI) has officially launched its groundbreaking Health Kiosk Project in Adidome, reaffirming its mission to empower individuals to know their health status and make informed lifestyle decisions for longer, healthier lives.
The initiative, led by Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V, Executive Director of WBI and Chief of Adidome, seeks to tackle the rising burden of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension and diabetes in the Volta Region and beyond.
Describing the project as “a candle of hope” for his community, Togbe Agyeman explained that the Health Kiosk would initially serve Adidome before expanding across all five sub-districts of the Central Tongu Health Directorate, with a vision to extend nationwide.

He cited global and local health statistics, stressing that hypertension and diabetes are “silent killers” responsible for countless preventable deaths. Quoting data from Johns Hopkins Nursing, he noted that hypertension is the leading cause of adult hospital admissions in Ghana and contributes significantly to overall adult mortality.
“Funeral posters with screaming inscriptions like ‘What a Shock,’ ‘Gone Too Soon,’ ‘Painful Exit’ are becoming too common. Let us deal with it,” Togbe Agyeman urged.
The Health Kiosk Initiative is anchored on WBI’s four strategic pillars under the acronym ACNE:
- Awareness – health education campaigns to sensitize communities.
- Checking – free health screenings for blood pressure and blood sugar, with referrals where necessary.
- Nutrition – dietary literacy campaigns promoting healthy eating using local foods under the slogan “We are what we eat.”
- Exercise – community fitness programs across all age groups, particularly targeting those aged 50 and above through the campaign “Age is a Number.”
The project is being rolled out in partnership with the Central Tongu District Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), which will provide training and supervision for kiosk attendants. Screened patients identified at risk will be referred to the Adidome District Hospital for further diagnosis and treatment.
Acknowledging the support of the Mafi Adidome Development Advisory Board (MADAB) and other donors, Togbe Agyeman appealed to government, international donors, philanthropists, and corporate organizations to support the scaling of this health solution nationwide, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG3) – Good Health and Wellbeing.
He emphasized: “We have the vision, we have the plan. What we now seek is the fuel to expand, operate sustainably, and reach every corner of Ghana and beyond.”
The launch event was chaired by Dr. Elikplim Kwabla Apetorgbor, Commissioner and Volta Region Representative to the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC). Other dignitaries present included Hon. Adison Dodzie Mornyuie, DCE for Central Tongu; Mr. Baba Awuni, District Director of Health Services; traditional leaders such as Mama Drapey, Queenmother of Adidome; and members of the media and local community.
Dr. Apetorgbor hailed the project as a timely and innovative response to the region’s health needs, declaring: “If there was any award today in recognition of traditional innovation, I will ask everyone to vote for Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V.”
