Political Rivalry Hindering Galamsey Fight – Security Consultant Warns

Security consultant Richard Kumadoe has cautioned that Ghana’s fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, cannot be resolved through political blame games.

Speaking on Citi FM’s The Big Issue on Saturday, September 13, Kumadoe argued that partisan rivalry between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) only complicates efforts to find lasting solutions.

“When you bring in politics between NDC and NPP, we are not going to resolve it,” Kumadoe stressed.

He pointed out that misinformation and miscommunication continue to fuel public frustration and heighten tensions around the issue.

“When it comes to this whole issue about galamsey, there is a lot of miscommunication and misinformation around it, and that is what is heightening the tension and the emotions about it,” he noted.

Kumadoe urged stakeholders to channel their energies into the legal and procedural frameworks already in place, insisting that meaningful progress can only be achieved by adhering to due process.

“So let’s allow the standard procedures to be followed as is being ascribed now,” he added.
