President Mahama Invites Civil Society to Jubilee House for High-Level Talks on Galamsey

President John Dramani Mahama has extended an invitation to major civil society organisations (CSOs) for a high-level engagement on the menace of illegal mining (galamsey).

The meeting, scheduled for Friday, October 3, 2025, at 12:00 noon, will take place at the Jubilee House and will bring together government officials and civil society leaders to deliberate on sustainable solutions to the environmental and social crisis caused by galamsey.

In a letter signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, the Presidency explained that the session is designed to foster frank and constructive dialogue between government and civil society.

“This engagement aims to provide a platform for frank and constructive dialogue between the Government and civil society on the menace of illegal mining, with a view to harnessing collective expertise, perspectives, and solutions to address this national challenge,” the letter stated.

The move comes amid rising public concern over the devastation of water bodies, farmlands, and forest reserves by illegal mining activities, with growing pressure on government to take decisive and lasting action.
