PAC Recovers GH¢12.9 Billion in Misappropriated Public Funds

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC), working in collaboration with the Auditor-General’s Department, has announced the recovery of more than GH¢12.9 billion in misappropriated public funds.
The revelation comes after weeks of committee hearings with officials from ministries, departments, and agencies cited in the 2024 Auditor-General’s Report for financial irregularities.
Accountability Efforts
PAC Chairperson, Abena Osei-Asare, speaking on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, said the milestone reflects the Committee’s unwavering commitment to ensuring accountability in the management of public resources.
“One thing I am clear about is that what we are doing is yielding positive results. We have a report we will look at. Per the work of the Public Accounts Committee, and with the support of the Auditor-General, we have been able to retrieve GH¢12.9 billion. There is a whole report on that which we will be sharing with the public at the right time,” she stated.
Next Steps
The PAC is scheduled to resume sittings on October 27, 2025, to continue examining financial infractions and ensuring compliance across state institutions.
The recovery of funds is being hailed as one of the most significant outcomes of the Committee’s oversight work, reinforcing public confidence in ongoing efforts to promote transparency, accountability, and good governance.
