The Director of Operations of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations (NAIMOS), Col. Dominic Buah, has issued a strong warning to illegal miners and their financiers, stressing that the state will not relent until the galamsey menace is eradicated.
Speaking during a briefing to President John Dramani Mahama at the Flagstaff House on Friday, October 3, 2025, Col. Buah said NAIMOS is fully prepared to dismantle illegal mining networks across the country.
Stern Warning to Galamsey Operators
“I want to send this warning to illegal miners, operators, and their financiers: you are the prime energy of the state, and they will be dealt with as such. There will be no room for them to escape. NAIMOS will fish them out very soon. There is no resting place for them. So, you should get ready and be assured that very soon our waters will be blue and our forests will turn green,” Col. Buah declared.
Nationwide Deployment
He revealed that more than 400 trained personnel have already been deployed to galamsey hotspots, with plans underway to expand recruitment in order to strengthen the task force.
Col. Buah stressed that NAIMOS’ strategy goes beyond arresting small-scale operators on-site, with a special focus on unmasking and prosecuting powerful financiers behind the illegal trade.
“Tracing to the big fishes is one area that is important to us. Many a time, when you get to the site, you see these young boys who are looking for some coins to take care of themselves. We say that we should dig and look behind the veil to know who is there. So we will trace, question, and investigate, and find out who the real people are behind financing because they are the ones that can deepen the galamsey menace in the country,” he explained.
Commitment to Restoration
The Operations Director assured Ghanaians that the task force remains firmly on the ground and will not rest until the nation’s forests and water bodies are restored to their natural state.
