Ntim Fordjour Blasts Proposal to Raise Ghana Armed Forces Recruitment Age Limit

The Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has sharply criticised proposals by some MPs to increase the age limit for recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).
His remarks follow recent suggestions by Minister for Communication, Digital Innovation and Technology, Sam George, and Majority Whip, Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor, who argued that the upper age limit for enlistment should be raised to 30 years or more. The two MPs maintained that individuals within that age bracket who are physically fit and mentally sound should not be barred from serving their country.
In a strongly worded response, Rev. Ntim Fordjour described the proposal as “misconceived and misguided,” accusing the legislators of attempting to use political influence to tamper with the professional recruitment standards of the Armed Forces.
“Hon. Sam George and Hon. Dafeamekpor’s call for unqualified overage NDC foot soldiers into the military is a misconceived and misguided populist agenda,” he stated.
He further warned, “We will resist every attempt by the NDC to load their overage foot soldiers into the Ghana Armed Forces. The GAF is not a dumping ground for overage NDC foot soldiers.”
Rev. Fordjour cautioned against any form of political interference in the operations of the military, stressing that compromising entry standards for partisan reasons could undermine professionalism and discipline within the institution.
“NDC Cabinet Ministers and Parliamentary Leadership must be made to know that it is extremely backward and dangerous to force unqualified people into the military as a reward for party patronage. Stop the undue interference in the credible and professional recruitment process underway by the Ghana Armed Forces,” he added.
