The husband of actress and fashion entrepreneur Nana Akua Addo has denied allegations that he assaulted her, with his lawyers offering a different account of the injury shown in photographs and videos circulating online.
Harold Duodu Norman’s legal team says the injury to Nana Akua Addo’s lip occurred in 2021, rather than during a recent incident as some social media posts appear to suggest.
In a statement, the lawyers alleged that the old footage and photographs have resurfaced in connection with an ongoing legal dispute involving the couple and are being used to generate public sympathy.
They said the circumstances surrounding the injury are currently connected to investigations by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service, as well as civil proceedings before the courts.
Husband Gives His Version of Events
According to Norman’s lawyers, the incident occurred after he returned from an event and was confronted by Nana Akua Addo over allegations of infidelity.
The lawyers claim that during the confrontation, Nana Akua Addo allegedly attempted to stab her husband with a knife.
They allege that Norman picked up a dressing mirror with wooden cladding and held it up to protect himself when the knife was allegedly directed towards his chest.
According to the legal team, the knife struck the mirror, causing it to shatter, and a piece of the broken mirror subsequently struck Nana Akua Addo on the lip.
The lawyers therefore reject any suggestion that Norman deliberately inflicted the injury, maintaining that it occurred during what they describe as his attempt to defend himself.
They further claim that Norman took his wife to hospital immediately after the incident for medical attention.
Lawyers Question Resurfacing of Old Footage
Norman’s legal representatives have also questioned why photographs and videos recorded around the time of the 2021 incident have resurfaced several years later.
They allege that the material is being circulated while legal proceedings involving the couple remain active, potentially influencing public perception before the relevant processes are concluded.
The lawyers said Norman has deliberately refrained from engaging in an extensive public debate over the matter because aspects of the dispute are currently before both DOVVSU and the courts.
They cautioned media organisations and members of the public against drawing conclusions from the viral footage alone, arguing that the material does not, in their view, provide the full circumstances surrounding the injury.
The legal team also raised a number of other allegations concerning previous disputes within the marriage, including claims involving members of the household.
However, those claims remain part of the competing accounts surrounding the dispute and have not been established by a court.
The lawyers maintained that the appropriate authorities should be allowed to investigate the matter and that the couple’s ongoing legal proceedings should be allowed to take their course.
