Ghana are expected to appoint an interim coach to take charge of the Black Stars’ next two Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as the search for a permanent successor to Carlos Queiroz continues.
The five-member committee set up by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Sports Ministry is expected to recommend an interim coach when it submits its initial report on Friday, 9 October.
According to 3Sports, the temporary appointment would cover Ghana’s two AFCON qualifiers against Somalia in November, both of which are scheduled to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The interim coach is expected to remain in charge until a substantive head coach is appointed.
The committee’s mandate could also be extended after Friday’s submission, allowing its members more time to assess candidates and recommend a permanent successor to Queiroz.
The panel is chaired by former GFA vice-president Fred Pappoe and includes former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, former Ghana international Anthony Yeboah, high-performance specialist Faisal Chibsah and lawyer and football administrator Agbesi Dzakpasu.
The search comes at a difficult time for Ghana, with the Black Stars facing an uphill task in their AFCON qualification campaign.
Queiroz resigned after Ghana lost their opening two Group C matches.
The Black Stars were beaten 2-0 by Ivory Coast away from home before suffering a dramatic 4-2 defeat by The Gambia in Accra, despite taking a two-goal lead.
The results have left Ghana bottom of Group C without a point from their first two games.
The November matches against Somalia therefore take on added importance as Ghana look to revive their qualification hopes.
The Black Stars missed the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco and are now under pressure to avoid another absence from the continent’s premier international tournament.
For the committee, the immediate priority appears to be finding someone to steady the team for the November fixtures, while a longer-term decision is made on the coach who will lead Ghana beyond them.
