The Local Government and Rural Development Committee of Parliament will suspend its public hearings on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) for one week, with proceedings scheduled to resume from October 26 to 30, 2026.
The Committee Chairman announced the break on Tuesday, October 13, explaining that the pause would allow members of the Majority Caucus to return to their constituencies and attend to ongoing parliamentary and constituency-related activities.
“Committee’s hearing for the MMDCEs, we would have to continue, God willing, from the 26th to the 30th of October. We have one week break for the Majority Caucus to also concentrate in our constituencies to finish what it is that we have started,” he said.
The Chairman indicated that the Committee would suspend its sittings for the rest of the week to enable members to undertake practical parliamentary work before returning to the hearings.
“So we’d put a halt to it today so that we can go to our constituencies, God willing, tomorrow. Finish with the practical work of Parliament, then we can come back and do the theory,” he added.
Ashanti, Bono East, Bono, Oti and Northern Regions Next
The Chairman said the next phase of the hearings would cover assemblies in the Ashanti, Bono East, Bono and Oti regions, as well as the entire Northern enclave.
The hearings are expected to run from October 26 to 30, as the Committee continues its examination of the 2025 annual statements submitted by audit committees across the local government sector.
The next phase will extend the Committee’s scrutiny to the listed regions following the initial round of engagements with assemblies.
Committee Examines 2025 Audit Committee Statements
The Committee on Local Government and Rural Development had scheduled the public hearings from October 5 to 20, 2026, to consider the 2025 annual statements of audit committees of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Regional Coordinating Councils, and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.
The hearings form part of Parliament’s examination of audit committee activities and accountability within local government institutions.
Proceedings are expected to resume on October 26 and continue through October 30, when the Committee will take up the next batch of regional engagements.
