Superintendent William Ayariga, Director of the Criminal Investigations Department’s (CID) Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, has cautioned the public against criminal groups allegedly using QNET’s name to lure unsuspecting individuals into human trafficking and other forms of exploitation.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Thursday, October 22, Mr Ayariga said the perpetrators often promise victims lucrative business opportunities and financial rewards but exploit them for personal financial gain.
He stressed the need to distinguish between QNET as a company and individuals who allegedly misuse its name to facilitate criminal activities.
“Let me emphasise that QNET itself is not an illegitimate business, but people are using the name of the company to lure unsuspecting victims into trafficking and other forms of exploitation,” he said.
According to the CID official, the perpetrators are primarily motivated by financial gain, with some allegedly exploiting victims financially before pressuring them to participate in online activities linked to fraudulent schemes.
Mr Ayariga urged the public to exercise caution when approached with business proposals purportedly associated with QNET. He advised prospective participants to verify the identities of those making the offers and establish the legitimacy of the proposed arrangements before committing financially.
He also warned against demands for upfront payments in exchange for promised business opportunities, urging anyone uncertain about an offer to seek clarification from the CID’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit before making payments or entering into agreements.
QNET is a direct-selling company that markets lifestyle and wellness products. The company says it is affiliated with direct-selling and industry associations in several countries, including the Hong Kong Health Food Association and Singapore’s Health Supplements Industry Association.
The warning highlights the importance of public vigilance in identifying suspected trafficking schemes and verifying business opportunities to avoid falling victim to financial exploitation.
