Sarah Adwoa Safo is seeking another opportunity to represent Dome-Kwabenya in Parliament, citing her years of service and the need to continue the constituency’s development.
The former Member of Parliament announced on Thursday, October 22, 2026, that she intends to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primaries when the party opens nominations under its forthcoming timetable and guidelines.
In her statement, Mrs. Safo pointed to her 12 years of service as MP and said her decision to return to the contest was driven by a continuing commitment to the people of Dome-Kwabenya.
“Over the last twelve years of my service as Member of Parliament, working together with residents, party faithful, community and religious leaders and stakeholders, we made meaningful progress in addressing many of these challenges and delivered tangible development,” she said.
She acknowledged that the constituency still faced significant development needs but said she wanted to build on the progress achieved during her time in office.
“While much remains to be done, I remain committed to building on the progress we made together and work tirelessly towards a better future for Dome-Kwabenya,” she stated.
Mrs. Safo first won the Dome-Kwabenya parliamentary seat in the 2012 general election and retained it in the 2016 and 2020 polls.
Her political journey extended beyond Parliament, with appointments to ministerial positions, including Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection and Minister of State in charge of Public Procurement.
She said the NPP’s electoral performance in Dome-Kwabenya improved over the years, attributing the gains to the commitment of party members, supporters and constituents.
According to her statement, the party secured 63,373 votes in the 2012 election, 65,488 in 2016 and 75,041 in 2020.
“These achievements are not mine alone. They reflect the dedication, sacrifice and commitment of every party member, supporter and constituent who believed in our shared vision for Dome-Kwabenya,” she said.
Her political career has also been marked by controversy, particularly the dispute over her prolonged absence from Parliament in 2022, which attracted scrutiny within the NPP and Parliament.
As she prepares for the party’s next parliamentary primary, Mrs Safo has called for unity and respectful engagement among party members and constituents.
She said the constituency’s future required collective effort and urged stakeholders to reflect on the leadership needed to sustain growth and development.
“I therefore invite party members, stakeholders and constituents alike to engage with me in a spirit of openness, candor and mutual respect as we reflect on the future of Dome-Kwabenya and the leadership required to drive its next phase of growth and development,” she said.
