Charles Kwadwo Fosu (AKA) Daddy Lumba, has been laid to rest following weeks of legal battles over his post-mortem and funeral arrangements.
Final rites and burial took place on 13 December 2025 at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, drawing thousands of mourners who came to celebrate his life and music.
The event was both emotional and culturally significant, with fans, family members, fellow musicians and public figures in attendance, paying tribute to his legacy.
The burial was delayed for weeks by intense legal conflict within the family and over funeral authority:
Rival claims emerged between members of Daddy Lumba’s extended family and close relatives, including disputes over who had the legal right to oversee the funeral rites and how they should be carried out.
The Accra High Court initially granted an injunction shortly before the ceremony, temporarily halting funeral preparations and blocking release of the body on grounds that some immediate family members had been excluded from the funeral planning.
The court later lifted the injunction after the plaintiffs failed to meet a financial bond condition (GH₵2 million), allowing the funeral to proceed as scheduled.
Priscilla Ofori (“Odo Broni”), a long-time partner of the late musician, delivered a moving tribute at the ceremony, emphasizing her love and memories of him amid the controversies.
Fans turned out in large numbers, even amid heavy rain, to honor Daddy Lumba’s influence, with memorabilia sales and musical celebrations highlighting his deep impact on Ghanaian culture.
Daddy Lumba, who passed away on 26 July 2025, leaves behind a monumental cultural legacy with decades of influential music and a devoted fan base across Ghana and beyond.
