Wiz Khalifa has been sentenced to nine months in absentia for drug possession by the Constanța Court of Appeal in Romania.
This stems from an incident in July 2024 at the “Beach, Please!” music festival in Costinești, Romania, where Khalifa was found with more than 18 grams of cannabis and was allegedly seen smoking on stage.
An earlier ruling in April 2025 had resulted in a fine of US$830 for “illegal possession of dangerous drugs.” Prosecutors appealed, seeking a harsher punishment, and the appeals court imposed the current prison sentence.
Romania has strict drug laws, even personal possession of cannabis is criminalized and can carry jail time.
Because the American rapper is a U.S. citizen who does not reside in Romania, it’s uncertain whether Romanian authorities will or can request extradition to have him serve the sentence. Legal experts cited in some reports say extradition is unlikely due to diplomatic and legal hurdles.
The sentence was reportedly handed down in his absence while he’s outside Romania, performing elsewhere.
Wiz Khalifa had previously acknowledged the 2024 incident on social media, saying he didn’t intend disrespect and joking that he’d return “without a big ass joint next time.”
