The Ghana Medical Trust Fund has disbursed GH¢1,141,500 to facilitate critical heart operations for eight young patients at the National Cardiothoracic Centre of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
Among these cases, five children recently referred from various regions of Ghana are now preparing for urgent cardiothoracic procedures, thanks to the Fund’s support.
These young patients hail from the Northern, Savannah, Bono East, Western North, Western, and Greater Accra regions, underscoring the nationwide impact of the initiative.
Under ordinary circumstances, these children would be spending their days in classrooms and playing with friends. Instead, serious heart conditions have confined them to hospital care, making the Fund’s intervention a vital lifeline for both them and their families.
This effort is part of a 50-case pilot program, designed to pave the way for the full launch of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund in April.
Through this initiative, the Fund aims to ensure that critically ill children, who might otherwise face barriers due to the high cost of surgery, receive prompt and essential medical attention, giving them a second chance at life.
