The driver of the SUV carrying Anthony Joshua and his team, has been formally charged by police in Ogun State, southwestern Nigeria. following a fatal crash on 29 December 2025.
Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode faces multiple charges, including causing death by dangerous driving, reckless driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid national driver’s licence.
An SUV carrying Anthony Joshua, Sina Ghami, and Latif “Latz” Ayodele hit a stationary truck on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway after what authorities said was likely excessive speed and an overtaking attempt.
Both Ghami and Ayodele were killed at the scene while Anthony Joshua and the driver sustained minor injuries.
The former two-time world heavyweight champion, who holds strong ties to Nigeria, was discharged from hospital and has paid respects to his late friends.
The 46 year old, was arraigned at Sagamu Magistrate Court and granted bail of 5 million naira, yet he remains in custody until bail conditions are met. The case is scheduled to return to court on **20 January 2026.
The crash has sparked attention on road safety issues in Nigeria, where high accident rates are a longstanding concern. Authorities, including President Bola Tinubu, have acknowledged the tragedy.
