Ghana Water Limited has shut down the Aframso Water Treatment Plant after a major burst in the DN 500 mm HDPE transmission pipeline that carries treated water from the plant.
The temporarily shutdown is expected to disrupt water supply to several communities and local districts which include, Kumawu, Bodomasi, Beboro, Woraso and surrounding areas in the Ashanti Region.
GWL says the shutdown was necessary because the burst pipeline cannot safely deliver treated water — meaning the plant cannot operate normally until repairs are completed.
Ghana Water Limited engineers are currently working to fix the damaged pipeline in the affected communities.
They apologised for the inconvenience and said it’s working to restore water supply as soon as possible once repairs are finished.
Temporary shutdowns of water treatment plants for maintenance, pipe bursts, or technical issues have occurred before in Ghana as the water utility works to maintain infrastructure and service reliability.
