The Ministry of Works and Housing has announced that it will be launching the Greenville District Housing Programme, an initiative aimed at transforming housing construction in the country.
The new programme was initiated by the Minister of Works and Housing Kenneth Adjei as part of the government’s broader push toward sustainable and climate-friendly housing solutions.
The main goals of the programme is the development of housing units designed with low-carbon and sustainable materials. This aligns with Ghana’s efforts to reduce the environmental footprint of the building sector.
The initiative intends to integrate green building principles into public housing projects, focusing on designs that are energy efficient and environmentally responsible.
It forms part of a broader strategy where Ghana is promoting sustainable construction practices nationwide, including training for professionals and the adoption of low-carbon technologies in the construction industry.
This aligns with Ghana’s ongoing efforts to close the housing deficit and improve urban development, complementing other housing initiatives such as affordable housing projects in various districts.
By designing with sustainability in mind, the programme aims to help bridge both the housing availability gap and the need for cost-effective homes, focusing on low-carbon and locally sourced materials which supports Ghana’s climate action goals.
