Idris Elba has been knighted by King Charles III in the 2026 New Year Honours List for his charity work supporting young people and efforts to tackle social issues like youth violence.
He was awarded in the UK’s highest civilian honours. The accolade (Knighthood) recognises his services to young people, particularly through charity and community work.
The A-list actor co-founded the Elba Hope Foundation with his wife, Sabrina Elba, which gives grants to organisations supporting youth empowerment and community development in the UK, the US and Africa.
He has also campaigned against knife crime and for practical support and opportunities for young people.
In his acceptance speech, Elba said he accepts the honour “on behalf of the many young people whose talent, ambition and resilience has driven the work of the Elba Hope Foundation,” and stressed the need for sustained support for youth.
