A major fire broke out at Kasoa New Market on Sunday, 4 January 2026, prompting a large emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Firefighters from the Kasoa Fire Station and Weija Fire Station were first on the scene, with reinforcements and fire tenders dispatched from other nearby stations to battle the blaze.
The response was coordinated with multiple fire engines successfully containing and eventually extinguishing the fire after several hours of intensive operations.
Authorities reported that the fire was brought under control and fully extinguished late in the evening on the same day.
Portions of the market were destroyed, with over 100 stores reportedly reduced to ash after a prolonged five-hour blaze.
Many metallic shops and wooden stalls, along with food items such as maize, beans, shea butter, spices and other goods, were lost or damaged.
Thankfully, the GNFS confirmed no casualties or injuries have been recorded so far.
Traders and residents have been advised to stay clear of the area to allow emergency teams to complete their operations safely.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and assessments of the full extent of property damage are ongoing.
