Rasmiya Abdul Rahaman has died from her injuries after been struck by an okada (motorcycle taxi) while standing with a group of children by the roadside at Adankwame in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.
Two of her siblings, Rasmid Abdul Rahaman (7) and Musharraf Abdul Rahaman (11), were also struck and are currently being treated in hospital.
The Collision happened while the children were standing near the road in front of the Adankwame Police Station, reportedly waiting to cross when the okada rider lost control and ran into them.
The rider was also injured and taken to Asuofua Government Hospital for treatment.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the family home in line with Islamic customs while police clearance is awaited for burial.
Okadas are a common form of transport in many parts of West Africa, including Ghana. They often operate in busy pedestrian areas and intersections, which can raise safety concerns, especially for children near roads.
Police have launched a formal investigation after the fatal crash to determine cause and any potential charges.
