President Trump is said to be weighing his options to acquire Greenland for the United States of America. The White House has confirm that the president and his advisers are discussing ways in with Greenland could be acquired.
Options available to acquire the semi-autonomous territory of Denmark are diplomacy, buying the island, Compact of Free Association and last but not the least, military action.
The President and his administration sees Greenland as a national security priority, citing the strategic role of the Arctic amid rivalry with America’s adversaries, Russia and China.
Denmark and other European Nations have strongly rejected any forceful takeover of Greenland, emphasizing it belongs to its citizens and warning that ant military action overtaken by the U.S. military would damage NATO unity.
Danish and Greenlandic governmental officials are locked in diplomatic talks with the Trump administration to address what they call inaccurate claims about foreign military presence on the island.
