A growing wave of post-primary reconciliation and consolidation within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) gathered fresh momentum on Tuesday when a large delegation of former Members of Parliament and lawyers affiliated to the party paid a courtesy visit to former Vice President and newly elected flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to congratulate him and pledge their full support for his 2028 presidential campaign.
The delegation, made up of former MPs, former ministers, deputy ministers, and board members who served under the Akufo-Addo administration, arrived at Dr. Bawumia’s private residence from Accra and several other regions across the country.
The legal team was led by Gary Nimako Marfo, Director of Legal of the party.

Their visit forms part of a broader internal party mobilisation effort following the NPP’s presidential primary held on January 31, 2026, which ended with Dr. Bawumia securing a decisive victory with 56.48 per cent of the total valid votes, officially making him the party’s presidential candidate for the 2028 general election.
The visit reflects a deliberate shift from contestation to consolidation within the party after a keenly contested primary that featured high-profile figures such as Kennedy Ohene Agyapong and Bryan Acheampong.
Party insiders describe the outreach by former office holders as a symbolic gesture aimed at healing internal divisions, rebuilding trust, and strengthening the party’s organisational base ahead of the 2028 elections.
Dr. Bawumia received the delegation warmly, thanking them for their show of support and stressing the need for unity, reconciliation, and collective purpose.
He urged party members to “forgive the past,” set aside internal differences, and rally behind a shared vision of returning the NPP to power in 2028.
According to sources present at the meeting, the former Vice President pledged to work openly with all factions and tendencies within the party, emphasising that victory in 2028 would only be possible through unity, discipline, and coordinated effort across all levels of the party structure.
The visit by the former MPs follows a similar high-profile show of solidarity earlier in February 2026, when the Minority Caucus in Parliament, led by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, visited Dr. Bawumia at his residence to congratulate him and formally pledge the caucus’s support for his presidential bid.
That earlier visit came just days after the primaries and was widely interpreted as a strategic signal of unity from the parliamentary front of the party.
Since his victory, Dr. Bawumia has also received a steady stream of congratulatory visits and endorsements from various party groupings, including party loyalists, women’s wings, grassroots organisers, former parliamentary candidates, and other support groups, all publicly aligning themselves with his leadership.
These visits form part of a broader internal realignment process as the NPP transitions from internal competition to external mobilisation for the 2028 general elections.
