The Oti Regional Police Command has intercepted a large consignment of suspected narcotics concealed in a truck at Dambai in the Oti Region. The operation, which took place on February 10, 2026, was carried out based on intelligence gathered by the Police.
According to a news release issued by the Regional Headquarters in Dambai, officers stopped and searched a DAF Long Trailer with registration number GW 1943-09. Although the trailer initially appeared empty, further inspection revealed that it had been modified with secret compartments sealed with six metal plates.
Police officers opened the concealed compartments in the presence of the suspect, identified as 40-year-old Amidu Jubril. A thorough search of the hidden sections uncovered four thousand (4,000) parcels of compressed dried leaf substances wrapped in yellow masking tape and suspected to be narcotics.
The discovery highlights what authorities describe as a growing sophistication in the methods used to traffic illicit drugs. The substances were carefully concealed within the modified compartments beneath the trailer in an apparent attempt to evade detection.
Following the interception, the truck has been impounded and all retrieved exhibits secured for evidential purposes. The suspect has since been detained and is assisting the Police with ongoing investigations into the source and intended destination of the suspected narcotics.
The Oti Regional Police Command has assured the public of its continued commitment to combating drug trafficking and related offences in the region. Authorities have also urged members of the public to support law enforcement efforts by volunteering credible information to help clamp down on criminal activities.
