Ghana has deported three Israeli citizens who were in the country. This occurred on 10–11 December 2025. The government said this action was a direct response (retaliation) to the treatment of Ghanaian travellers in Israel.
Earlier, Israeli authorities detained and deported three Ghanaian citizens at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv after holding a group of Ghanaian travellers, including members of a parliamentary delegation for several hours.
Ghana described the treatment as “inhumane,” “ill-treatment” and “unjustified.”
In response, Ghana’s Foreign Ministry said it was compelled to act and expelled three Israelis who had recently arrived in Ghana.
After Ghana’s action, Israeli authorities issued an official apology to Ghana and called for de-escalation of the dispute, according to Ghana’s Foreign Minister.
This incident is an example of reciprocal diplomatic measures taken between countries when citizens are perceived to be mistreated abroad.
Ghana and Israel have long-standing formal diplomatic relations, first established in the 1950s and restored in 2011 after a break in the 1970s.
