A Kasoa-based preacher has landed in police custody after a viral social media video triggered national security concerns, highlighting growing fears over the misuse of digital platforms in the political space.
The suspect, Prophet William Gyimah, 49, founder and General Overseer of Elohim International Ministry, was arrested on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, following the circulation of a controversial video in which he allegedly issued threats and made offensive remarks targeting Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman and First Lady Lordina Mahama.
Viral Video Triggers National Security Response
According to an official statement from the Ghana Police Service, the footage, which gained traction on platforms such as TikTok, was quickly flagged as a “high-priority” security concern.
The content was intercepted by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET), a specialised unit tasked with monitoring and addressing digital threats.
Police sources indicate that the nature of the statements captured in the video raised alarm over potential threats to public officials, prompting swift intervention.
Targeted Operation Leads To Arrest
Following intelligence gathered by the cyber surveillance unit, officers conducted a targeted operation in Kasoa, leading to the arrest of Prophet Gyimah.
Authorities emphasised that the speed of the operation was influenced by the potential implications of the suspect’s remarks on national peace and stability.
The suspect has since been transferred to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to assist with ongoing investigations.
In the wake of the arrest, the Police Administration issued a stern caution to the public, media organisations, and content creators regarding the use of digital platforms.
