Anthony Joshua has been involved in a fatal car crash in Nigeria on Monday 29 December 2025. The collision occurred late morning on the Lagos to Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State.
The British heavyweight boxer was a passenger in a black Lexus SUV that collided with a stationary truck on the busy highway. He is said to have sustained minor injuries in the crash and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Footage circulating online and from local media shows him being pulled from the wrecked SUV, appearing to be conscious.
While Joshua escaped with minor injuries, two others escaped without harm while another two in the vehicle with him were confirmed dead at the scene.
Investigation of the incident is undertaken and ongoing by the Ogun State Police and Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Preliminary findings suggest that the SUV may have been traveling at excessive speed and lost control while attempting to overtake, before hitting the stationary truck.
The 36 year old was in Nigeria following a boxing match in Miami, where he won a knockout victory against American Jake Paul on 19 December 2025
