FIFA have announced that a lot of the usual noise and smoke making instruments won’t be allowed inside 2026 World Cup stadiums.
FIFA’s Chief Safety & Security Officer G.B. Jones, made this clear about 2026 stadium rules for the upcoming world cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico,.
No longer allowed inside stadiums are Pyrotechnics & fireworks, especially anything that produces smoke effects of any kind, flares, smoke bombs, pyro with smoke.
Also falling under typically prohibited items are drums and some musical instruments even though it’s not a total, automatic, no-discussion-allowed ban on drums.
Official supporter groups can apply to FIFA for an exemption via the official channels / website and may be allowed to bring them in “within specified parameters”.
FIFA is coordinating with local safety rules in the US, Canada and Mexico, who have voice concern about health concerns. Authorities site smoke in dense crowds as a problem for people with asthma/respiratory issues.
They also claim that loud instruments, flares etc. complicate crowd control and spotting trouble in the stands.
