Ghana’s Black Stars have strengthened their technical and support structure as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, appointing a mix of European specialists and Ghanaian professionals to bolster the team’s backroom staff.
The Ghana Football Association confirmed the addition of three assistant coaches, bringing together a diverse pool of experience from across Europe. France’s Alain Ravera, Sweden’s Kim Lars Björkegren and Spain’s José Daniel Martínez Alfonso have all been drafted in to support the senior national team as it builds towards the global showpiece.
In the medical department, familiar faces are also returning. Spanish physiotherapist Carlos Lozano Romero is back with the Black Stars after previously working with the team during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, a move expected to provide continuity and deeper understanding of the players’ physical demands.
Performance and conditioning has also been reinforced with the appointment of Dwayne Peasah Paa Kwesi, a UK-based Ghanaian performance coach, whose role will focus on fitness, recovery and optimising player output throughout the long road to the tournament.
The new appointments reflect a deliberate strategy by the GFA to blend international expertise with Ghanaian support systems, as the Black Stars aim to be more competitive on the world stage.
With the 2026 World Cup set to be hosted jointly by the United States, Canada and Mexico, Ghana is looking to leave nothing to chance, ensuring that players are supported by a modern, well-resourced technical team capable of meeting the demands of elite international football.
