Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena, together with eight others standing trial over the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, has been granted bail by a court.
Each of the accused persons was admitted to bail in the sum of GH¢500,000 with two sureties. Although the sureties are not required to be justified, the court directed that they must complete and sign bail justification forms as part of the conditions.
The accused have pleaded not guilty to five counts, including the use and possession of offensive weapons, prohibition of vigilante groups, discharging firearms in public, and causing unlawful damage.
The charges stem from a shooting incident that occurred during a gathering associated with the Kristo Asafo Mission, which has been facing internal tensions following a leadership dispute after the death of its founder, Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
Those standing trial include Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, a brother of the injured former MP, as well as Jehosaphat Tamaklo Safo, Kwabena Safo, Benjamin Amoakwa Sam, Enock Badu, Richard Ayitey, Gideon Safo, Nana Kwaku Afriyie, and Kwadwo Safo Koomsom.
