‘I hope both Ghana and Sudan qualify for the 2025 AFCON’ – Kwasi Appiah

James Kwasi Appiah, the head coach of Sudan’s senior national football team, is working towards guiding Sudan to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside his former team, Ghana. Sudan and Ghana are set to face each other in a crucial AFCON qualifier doubleheader, with the first match on October 11. Appiah also expressed his larger goal of leading Sudan to their first-ever FIFA World Cup in 2026, as his team remains unbeaten in the World Cup qualifiers.

James Kwasi Appiah’s hope for Sudan’s qualification to both the 2025 AFCON and the 2026 FIFA World Cup reflects his long-term vision for the team. Currently, Sudan holds a competitive position in the AFCON qualifiers, sitting third in Group F behind Ghana, and both teams are aiming for a spot in the tournament in Morocco.

Appiah’s belief in balancing the success of both his current team, Sudan, and his former team, Ghana, shows his continued connection with Ghanaian football. While he is focused on Sudan’s success, he clearly harbors no conflict of interest and hopes both nations can achieve their objectives in the qualifiers.

Beyond AFCON, Appiah is looking to make history by leading Sudan to their first World Cup appearance in 2026. His vision is to be the catalyst that brings Sudan into global football prominence, and with the team’s unbeaten record so far in the qualifiers, this goal seems within reach. He views his role as more than just tactical, aiming to inspire the team and use his experience to elevate Sudanese football to new heights on the global stage.
