EC disqualifies NDC’s Joana Cudjoe from Amenfi Central Parliamentary race

The Electoral Commission (EC) has disqualified Joana Gyan Cudjoe from running as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Amenfi Central constituency due to a pending court order. This decision follows a petition pointing out an interlocutory injunction issued by the High Court in Sekondi, which restrains Mrs. Cudjoe from being recognized as the duly elected parliamentary candidate.
The injunction stems from a legal suit filed by Gyedu Frimpong and four others against Joana Cudjoe, the NDC, and the EC, questioning the legitimacy of her candidacy, particularly the authenticity of her voter identification. Despite Mrs. Cudjoe successfully filing her nomination forms and being re-elected by delegates after a previous annulment of her candidacy, the court order remains in effect.

In a letter dated October 16, 2024, EC Deputy Chairman of Operations, Samuel Tettey, clarified that since the court order has neither been stayed nor vacated, the Commission is obligated to comply with it and thus disqualify Mrs. Cudjoe.
