Mahama Issues Final Ultimatum on Asset Declaration: Appointees Face Dismissal by May 7

President John Dramani Mahama has delivered a final ultimatum to all government appointees who have failed to comply with Ghana’s asset declaration laws, warning that they will be automatically dismissed if they do not declare their assets by Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

The President issued the warning during the launch of the Code of Conduct for Government Appointees in Accra on Monday, May 5, as part of renewed efforts to uphold transparency and accountability in his administration.

Mahama made it clear that no exceptions would be made, stating:

“If by close of day, Wednesday, 7th May 2025, any of you still fails to declare your assets, count yourself automatically dismissed because when it comes to protecting the integrity of this government, I will not compromise.”

This follows a March 31 deadline that was set earlier this year. Some appointees failed to meet that deadline, prompting the President to impose strict financial penalties:

  • Three months’ salary forfeiture for missing the March deadline.
  • An additional one-month salary donation to the MahamaCares Fund, a health initiative under the Ghana Medical Trust Fund.

The President’s tough stance comes as part of broader measures to build public trust and deter corruption within the public service.
