Businessman Donates GH₵500,000 to Support Adum Railways Market Fire Victims

Kumasi, Ghana – March 30, 2025Businessman and philanthropist, Emmanuel Aboagye (Aboagye Contractor), has donated GH₵500,000 to support victims of the recent Adum Railways Market fire in Kumasi.

The generous donation was made after Aboagye Contractor toured the burnt section of the market to assess the damage and offer words of encouragement to affected traders.

On March 20, 2025, a raging fire swept through parts of the Adum Railways Market, destroying millions of cedis worth of goods. The cause of the fire remains unknown, leaving many traders stranded and in distress, as they seek support from the government and philanthropists to help them rebuild their businesses.

Moved by their plight, Aboagye Contractor presented the GH₵500,000 donation to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, to be distributed among the victims.

Expressing his motivation for the donation, Aboagye Contractor praised the Ashanti Regional Minister for his dedication to helping the affected traders.

“I would first like to thank the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, for his tireless efforts in supporting the victims. I am also aware of President Akufo-Addo’s visit to the market to offer his support,” he said.

He added that his charity foundation, which he runs with his wife, is dedicated to assisting the less privileged within their financial means.

“When the Regional Minister approached me for assistance, we saw this as a collective responsibility and assured him that we would be there to support our brothers and sisters in their time of need. So, we are here to donate GH₵500,000 to support the victims through the Minister,” he stated.

Aboagye Contractor further called on the business community to contribute towards helping the affected traders recover.

“I appeal to the business community to join in supporting our struggling sisters and brothers, both financially and psychologically, so they can restart their businesses. I believe that our presence here will give them strength during this critical time. May the Lord comfort you all and help you recover from this great loss,” he said.

Receiving the donation, Dr. Frank Amoakohene expressed his appreciation to Aboagye Contractor for his timely support.

“Our brother, Aboagye Contractor, who is based in Accra, came to my office to make a donation of GH₵500,000. I suggested that we visit the traders, so he could personally encourage them,” he explained.

“I believe hearing from him will provide psychological relief during this difficult time. On behalf of the affected traders, I extend my deepest gratitude for your generosity,” the minister added.

Government’s Commitment to Rebuilding the Market

Dr. Amoakohene assured the victims that the government would take the necessary steps to help them restart their businesses.

However, he explained that the reconstruction of the market would have to wait for the return of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, who is currently out of the country.

“The government will take all necessary steps when the Asantehene returns, to ensure that the market is rebuilt in the best interest of the affected traders,” he stated.
