Greater Accra Poultry Farmers Association Backs Feed Ghana Programme as Game-Changer

ACCRA, Ghana – April 25, 2025 — The President of the Executive Council of the Greater Accra Poultry Farmers Association (GAPFA), Mr. Anim-Somuah, has lauded the Feed Ghana Programme as a transformative opportunity for Ghana’s agricultural sector, particularly in boosting the country’s food systems and achieving national food self-sufficiency.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily on Friday, April 25, Anim-Somuah declared GAPFA’s full commitment to supporting the programme, stating that the association’s robust structure and widespread membership make it well-positioned to play a leading role.

“As farmers, we have positioned ourselves to embrace this opportunity, expand our farms, and feed this country. It is not beyond our scope or horizon to do this,” he affirmed.

GAPFA’s Role and Strength

With a membership of about 800 active poultry farmers, GAPFA is the largest organised poultry association in Ghana. The group also supports numerous non-members who depend on its services for their poultry farming needs.

Notably, GAPFA is home to one of the largest groups of women farmers in Ghana, which Anim-Somuah described as a critical asset in delivering on the objectives of the Feed Ghana Programme.

“Our numbers give us strength. With them, we can support this programme and support it very well,” he added.

Feed Ghana: A National Agricultural Agenda

The Feed Ghana Programme, officially launched by President John Dramani Mahama on April 12, 2025, forms a major part of the Agriculture for Economic Transformation Agenda (AETA). Its overarching goals include:

  • Modernising agricultural practices
  • Increasing national food production
  • Enhancing infrastructure and agro-processing zones
  • Creating jobs and reducing food-related inflation
  • Promoting food security and self-sufficiency

Mr. Anim-Somuah emphasized that the programme has arrived at a crucial moment, as organised farmers across Ghana are eager for new opportunities to scale up and increase productivity.
