GFA Provides Buses to Division One League Clubs Under Bus Acquisition Strategy

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has distributed buses to nine Division One League (DOL) clubs as part of its Bus Acquisition Strategy. The presentation ceremony took place at the Accra Sports Stadium, marking the fulfillment of a commitment made by GFA President Kurt Okraku during the association’s 29th Congress in Kumasi last year.

Beneficiary Clubs

The initiative awarded buses to the top three clubs in each of the three DOL zones. The beneficiaries included New Edubiase United FC, Okwawu United FC, Young Apostles FC, Techiman Heroes FC, Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs FC, Basake Holy Stars FC, Vision FC, Hohoe United FC, and Victory Club Warriors FC.

Enhancing Club Welfare

Speaking at the event, GFA President Kurt Okraku outlined the purpose of the Bus Acquisition Strategy, emphasizing its focus on improving player and staff welfare during club travels.

“The acquisition of these buses was funded by increased inflows generated through the collective performance of our clubs. This initiative is part of the merit awards for the 2023/2024 season. We aim to extend this effort to other clubs in the upcoming season, with details to be announced soon,” Mr. Okraku stated.

He also announced plans to expand the initiative to the Women’s Premier League, with four clubs set to receive buses shortly.

Gratitude from Clubs

Representatives from all but one of the beneficiary clubs were present at the ceremony and expressed their appreciation.

Techiman Heroes’ Communications Director, Gideon Bekoe, praised the initiative for addressing transportation challenges. “Transportation has been a problem, and now we are getting a bus. This will benefit us greatly and improve our operations as a club,” he said.

Similarly, Okwawu United’s General Manager, Nana Kwame Dankwa, highlighted the impact of the initiative on alleviating the transportation struggles faced by clubs. “This initiative will go a long way in solving the major problem of transportation for clubs in Ghana,” he remarked.

Looking Ahead

The Bus Acquisition Strategy demonstrates the GFA’s commitment to addressing fundamental challenges in Ghanaian football. With plans to extend the initiative to other clubs and leagues, it is a step toward improving the operational efficiency and welfare of football teams across the country.
