GES Dismisses Reports of Full Return to Single-Track for 2025/2026 Academic Year

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has denied media reports suggesting that the 2025/2026 academic calendar has fully reverted to the single-track system.

In a statement released via its official Facebook page, GES clarified that the new calendar makes provision for both single-track and double-track schools, depending on the institution’s classification.

According to the statement, the academic year will officially commence on Saturday, 18th October 2025, when all first-year students are expected to report. The academic year will end on 21st August 2026 for single-track schools, while double-track institutions will close on 4th September 2026.

Daniel Fenyi, Public Relations Officer of GES, emphasized that the clarification was necessary to ensure transparent and accurate communication to students, parents, and the general public.

The announcement comes as debates continue around the sustainability and effectiveness of the double-track system, introduced to address infrastructure and capacity challenges in senior high schools.
