Election 2024: Ghana’s democratic legacy must prevail – Nyaho-Tamakloe to EC, Political Parties

Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) and national stakeholders to prioritize the protection of Ghana’s democratic stability ahead of the December 7 elections.
In a statement issued on December 3, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe urged key national figures to uphold their responsibilities in ensuring a fair, transparent, and peaceful electoral process.
Message to the Electoral Commission
Addressing Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the EC, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe underscored the commission’s critical role in conducting free and fair elections. He emphasized the institution’s legacy of impartiality and transparency, urging her to maintain these principles.
“You are not the first to hold this esteemed office, and you will not be the last. The legacy of this institution has always been one of fairness, transparency, and impartiality,” he stated.
Appeal to President Akufo-Addo
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe also called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to ensure that the EC and state institutions operate in ways that uphold public trust. Reflecting on Ghana’s successful elections in 2016 and 2020, he urged the president to continue setting a standard of democratic excellence.
Call to Religious and Traditional Leaders
The statement appealed to the clergy, chiefs, and members of the Council of State to take a more active role during this critical period. Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe encouraged these leaders to rise above partisanship, promoting peace and accountability instead of remaining silent during moments of national tension.
Message to Ghanaians
To the citizens, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe stressed the importance of vigilance and placing national interest above partisan loyalties. He urged Ghanaians to demand integrity and fairness from all institutions involved in the electoral process.
“Let us not allow partisan loyalties to blind us to the dangers we face. This is a time to prioritize the future of Ghana above all else. Our collective voice must call for peace, fairness, and accountability from every institution,” he appealed.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe’s statement serves as a reminder of the shared responsibility among institutions, leaders, and citizens to uphold Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
