3 school children arrested in Takoradi for stealing GHC35k from popular supermarket

In Takoradi, three children aged 4, 10, and 16 have been apprehended after being caught on CCTV stealing GHC 35,000 from a supermarket. The incident has raised concerns about child involvement in crime and its implications for societal values.
The children entered the store pretending to buy ice cream. While the 10-year-old looted the cash drawer during a cashier’s absence, his siblings acted as decoys. After stuffing money into a bag, they fled.
A supplier at the store, Mr. Kwaku Tando, discovered the theft when a cashier expressed distress over missing funds. Reviewing the CCTV footage, he recognized the children, traced the eldest to a local Senior High School, and confirmed their identities. Interrogation revealed that the stolen money was handed to their mother, who was also apprehended. Police recovered GHC 31,000 while efforts to retrieve the remaining amount continue.
The supermarket has since implemented stricter security measures to prevent such incidents. This case underscores the importance of parental guidance and the role of community vigilance in addressing youth delinquency.
