Daddy Lumba’s lawyers invite estate claims, caution against defamatory publications

Lawyers representing the family of the late Ghanaian highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, have officially invited any individuals with claims against his estate to submit them for consideration.

In a statement dated August 1, 2025, and signed by Fati Ali Yallah on behalf of Baba Jamal and Associates, the legal team acknowledged the circulation of videos, public statements, and social media posts alleging claims against the deceased musician.

“In the spirit of transparency and dignity, all such persons with genuine and verifiable claims against the late Daddy Lumba are respectfully invited to submit such claims to the lawyers of the Fosu family, and such claims will be resolved amicably,” the statement read.

The legal team also issued a strong warning to individuals and media outlets propagating defamatory or misleading content about the late musician, urging them to desist or face possible legal consequences.

“We also serve notice and caution all individuals or media outlets who continue to publish defamatory, unverified or misleading contents about the late Daddy Lumba to desist from such acts or will be held legally accountable,” the statement added.

Daddy Lumba passed away on July 26, 2025, following a short illness. His death has sparked an outpouring of grief across the country and beyond. The family, in collaboration with the Creative Arts Agency and other stakeholders, has announced a vigil to be held on August 2 at Independence Square in his honour.

Widely regarded as a musical icon, Daddy Lumba leaves behind a legacy of 33 albums and over 200 songs, spanning themes such as birth, love, politics, marriage, and death across his four-decade-long career.

While funeral arrangements are yet to be officially announced, a book of condolence has been opened at his East Legon residence. Notable visitors include former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and a delegation from Media General, who paid their respects and signed the condolence book.
