Mohammed Kudus charged with violent conduct after being sent off against Spurs

Mohammed Kudus, the Ghanaian international and West Ham United player, along with his club and Tottenham Hotspur, has been charged by the English FA following a heated incident during West Ham’s 4-1 loss to Spurs on Saturday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Kudus was involved in a physical altercation that escalated when he kicked Spurs defender Micky van de Ven and pushed both van de Ven and midfielder Pape Matar Sarr in the face. Initially shown a yellow card, VAR reviewed the incident and upgraded his punishment to a red card for violent conduct.

The FA charged Kudus for “violent conduct and acting in an improper manner” due to his actions during and after the altercation. Tottenham and West Ham have also been charged with failing to control their players, accused of allowing “improper, provocative, and violent behavior” during the scuffle.

Kudus had put West Ham ahead earlier in the match but was confronted by players from both teams after the incident. He, along with the clubs, has until Thursday to respond to the charges. If found guilty, Kudus could face additional punishment beyond the standard three-match suspension for violent conduct.

Former Premier League referee Mike Dean speculated that Kudus might face a six-match ban due to his actions. Dean noted that because Kudus struck two different players, the FA could impose further retrospective action.

Kudus, who has made 10 appearances and scored two goals for West Ham so far this season, now awaits the FA’s decision on the charges.
