NPP, NDC, and EC Head to Court Over Disputed Constituency Results

The New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Electoral Commission (EC) will appear in court on Tuesday, December 31, to address disputes over election results in constituencies such as Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, and Techiman South.
Background
- A Supreme Court ruling overturned a High Court decision that had allowed the EC to re-collate results in constituencies initially declared in favour of the NDC.
- The EC’s re-collations declared NPP candidates winners in seven constituencies.
NDC’s Petition
The NDC challenged the re-collations at the Supreme Court, claiming:
- Violation of natural justice: Their candidates were not heard at the High Court.
- Accusation of bias: The presiding judge at the High Court was alleged to be biased.
Supreme Court Ruling
- Found no evidence of judicial bias but agreed that the NDC candidates’ rights to natural justice were violated.
- Directed the case to be reassigned to a new judge for resolution.
Upcoming High Court Decision
The High Court will now determine the fate of the disputed constituencies during its Tuesday session, a decision crucial to resolving the election controversies.
