Gabriel Atokple Kwamigah Tanko Elected as Volta Region’s Council of State Representative

Businessman Gabriel Atokple Kwamigah Tanko has been elected as the Volta Region’s representative on the Council of State, securing 24 out of 36 votes in an election held on February 11, 2025, at the OLA Senior High School Assembly Hall.

The race featured 13 candidates, but Mr. Tanko won with a decisive margin. Voting commenced at 9:50 AM after some initial agitations, and by the end of the process, he had secured his place as the region’s voice on the advisory body to the President.

Tanko’s Vision for the Volta Region

Following his victory, Mr. Tanko pledged to focus on unlocking the Volta Region’s economic potential to drive development and progress.

“I am committed to ensuring that the Volta Region benefits fully from its vast economic resources. I will work closely with relevant stakeholders to push for initiatives that bring prosperity to our people,” he stated.

Allegations of Political Influence

Meanwhile, some candidates have accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of influencing the election outcome, alleging that delegates’ votes were swayed. However, there has been no official response from the party regarding these claims.

With Gabriel Atokple Kwamigah Tanko’s election, stakeholders anticipate his contributions to shaping policies that will benefit the Volta Region and the nation at large.
