Accra, March 25, 2025 – Former National Signals Bureau (NSB) Director-General Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife, Angela Adjei Boateng, have filed a legal challenge against the GH¢200 million bail conditions imposed on them, calling the amount excessive and unconstitutional.
The couple remains in custody following their arrest over alleged financial misconduct, with bail conditions set at GH¢120 million for Adu-Boahene and GH¢80 million for his wife.
Legal Challenge Against Bail Conditions
Their legal team, led by Samuel Atta Akyea Esq., has petitioned the Human Rights Division of the High Court in Accra, arguing that the bail terms are unjustifiably harsh and designed to keep them detained indefinitely.
The lawsuit names Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as respondents and seeks to secure reasonable bail terms while investigations continue.
According to the defense team:
✔️ The bail amount is excessive and violates constitutional limits on detention without trial.
✔️ EOCO’s request for such a high bail sum suggests an attempt to prolong their detention rather than ensure their availability for investigations.
✔️ The state has not provided clear evidence to justify the steep financial demands.
Upcoming Court Hearing
The High Court’s Human Rights Division is set to hear the bail reduction plea on May 28, 2025. The defense is expected to argue that the prosecution’s approach is legally questionable and disproportionate to the allegations levelled against the couple.
EOCO is currently investigating Adu-Boahene and his wife for financial misconduct, but the defense maintains that the charges remain vague and lack substantial evidence.
This case is expected to test the boundaries of bail regulations and constitutional protections in Ghana’s judicial system.
